Superworms (Zoophobas Mario)
The Zoophobas Mario, otherwise known as superworms can be a great addition to add to your pet’s diet. Superworms are easy and inexpensive to maintain, where most reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians will naturally consume them. Get your packages in various sizes of 50, 250, 500 and 1 000 worms.
They have a long life span which allows them to be fed over a lengthy period of time which makes this a suitable item to purchase in bulk. Super worms cannot be stored in the refrigerator like mealworms. Suggestions on what animals to feed:Â
You can feed superworms to a large number of different animals as a staple or as a treat but should always be fed with other insects to ensure a varied diet. We suggest feeding them to the following animals:
- Reptiles (Bearded dragons, Chameleons, Gecko’s etc.)
- Fish
- Monkey’s
- Pig’s
- Poultry
Superworms are often mistaken for giant mealworms as a result of their similar features meanwhile, they are completely different. They will naturally grow to their final size where giant mealworms are normal mealworms that are treated with a growth hormone that enables them to grow to the size of a superworm.
Most important to remember, is to find out the nutritional requirements of your pets before feeding, many pets like reptiles require an additional dusting of vitamins and calcium to ensure there is nothing lacking in their diet.
How to store them:
You need to maintain a stable room temperature and supply with a food and water source (they find their water in the food they eat).
Mealworms are the larval form of the Zoophobus Mario beetle which goes through four life cycles:
- Beetle
- Larvae (Superworm)
- Pupae
- Eggs
