Sometimes referred to as “The Black Lab of Tarantulas”, Grammostola pulchra is a jet black gentle giant. Their jet black coloration together with their calm nature and long lifespan of 20+ years make them a really iconic specie which is highly saught after and a great addition for newbies to the Tarantula hobby aswell as to the more avid keepers. They are native to the grasslands of Brazil and Uruguay, where they live in deep burrows under low vegetation and around rocks. Reaching sizes of 18-20cm , this heavy-bodied T is recognized for its very calm nature. It is usually a species that is reluctant to flick hair, and tolerates handling well. That being said, due to the fragile and unpredictable nature of these animals, handling is not recommended. A very slow growing species, females can live for decades, while even the males can make it to 8 years+ . This means that if you purchase one as a sling, you will enjoy many years with this animal regardless of the gender.
